What's the Luke Challenge?
The Luke Challenge is a 24-day journey through the Gospel of Luke to prepare our hearts for Christmas. We invite you to read 1 chapter of Luke with us daily from December 1st to Christmas Eve.
Then Jesus went back to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and the news about Him spread through the entire region. - Luke 4:14 (AMP)
Day 4 Takeaway
Luke moves fast. We are still basking in the glory of the best news ever and, like a slingshot, we find Jesus sent into the desert and back out, filled with power and God’s Holy Spirit, in just a few verses.
When we hear and receive the Good News of Jesus, we realize what we’d been missing all along. A weight we didn’t know we were carrying is suddenly gone; and we don’t even have the words to describe it. Yet even before we have language for it, something inside us burns with the news we received to spread.
It seems that news should travel faster with all the social-multi-media-instant-gratification technology we have today. Marketing experts can quantify the effectiveness of our branding and analyze our reach. It’s almost like our great intentions to spread this news can take us away from Him and into a spiral of self-sufficiency for the cause.
Today we rest, knowing that all the tools and dollars and experts in the world can’t make the news of Jesus spread in sincerity like the actual power of the Holy Spirit.
May we pause and spend time alone with Him today and be infused with power by His Holy Spirit (not our effort), as news about Him spread through the entire region.
